ABOUT CAR 1:

Built 1912 by W.A. Holman Co., known as Type "A" and also as an "Arnold" car (named after consultant Bion J. Arnold). The first twenty cars (1-20) were built by Holman and the last twenty-three (21-43) by Union Iron Works. The "Arnolds" were retired with the conversion of the Stockton streetcar line to trolley coaches in 1951. Car 1 was saved for display in a proposed railroad museum that never materialized. It was then restored for service in conjuction with Muni's Golden Week in 1962, becoming a popular streetcar for special service, shuttles, charters, and the famed Trolley Festivals of the 1980s. Part of the historic fleet of the F-Market line since inauguration of service September 1, 1995. During 2010 the car was at Brookville Equipment Co. for rebuilding, and number 1 was dedicated back to service on April 5, 2012, its and Muni's hundredth year.
