Cable car 42 was built by W.L. Holman Co. in 1906 for the California Street Cable Railroad Co. Muni withdrew it from service in 1954, the car was privately preserved, and Market Street Railway brought it back to San Francisco for restoration in its O'Farrell Jones & Hyde Sts. livery. It's used as a ceremonial car for the mayor, but more frequently it has been appearing in revenue service at Heritage Weekend, starting with the Muni centennial celebration on November 4 and 11, 2012.
